The five A’s of the women in Argentine advertising

mujerThis new column from Buenos Aires, arose alter being a frequent and fan reader of Adwomen.

It intends to be an additional contribution to the world wide exchange of views and ideas, and to enlarge the net that allows us to get in contact and learn from other voices separated by many kilometers. It will provide ways of comparing and sharing coomon situations to women spread all over the planet.

To start  I think that it would be appropiate to describe at a glance how is the treatment of women in Argentine Advertising

There is a study performed in 2008 by the Starcom Media Group named “The five As of women in Argentine Advertising”.

Their conclusions were originated after carefully analizing more than 150 ads related to medicine, beauty, food, beverages, cleaning. Far away from household duties, such as kitchen, ironing, washing, advertising adressed to women is now characterized by stressing other values such as self-exigence, autonomy, autenticity, self sufficiency, originality.

“WOMEN DECIDE”, HOW CONNECT BETTER WITH THE FEMENINE PUBLIC IN THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM RETHINK-HER

Under the slogan “Women decide” www.ellasdeciden.com and marketing, communication and branding designed by and for women as main theme, the Business and Advertising Association of Cataluña will call a meeting of the most prestigious experts in the industry to know the keys that really can have influence on the most influential target today: women.

With an expenditure amounting to over 8,000 million euros per year, women make 70% of purchases worldwide. This emerges from a study conducted by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in which took part more than 12,000 women from 22 countries during 2008.

PHOTOSHOP: USE OR ABUSE?

France and UK are discussing if they should aware people when advertising, propaganda or press pictures are retouched.

Nowadays, retouching techniques have become really common in many areas. Newspapers, magazines, brochures, billboards… even in non-professional’s pictures we can find the use of Photoshop. It is used with politicians, models, actors… as it has become so frequent we can say it’s practically replacing the elder photo development.

WHAT ANA KARENINA HAD DRUNK

If Tolstoi was alive and he had made drink alcohol to the main character of one of his most celebrated masterpieces, Ana Karenina, he had done it with UV Vodka. Because this brand focuses directly to a woman, young female women specifically, and its advertising proves it. One of the ad pieces make a pink guitar form and the claim crowns “Queen of Rock” to the girl who proposes the best vodka recipe. The target is to promote a raffle participation that gives two tickets and three nights for a Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

FEMALE EYE FESTIVALS

Over recent months, AdWomen has followed the trail of the female presence in the international advertising festival’s most important moment. Women who like creative, opinion forming and jurors have left their mark on such emblematic events like the 50th anniversary of the “Clio Awards” in the “FIAP” Iberoamerican Advertising Festival, considered the most important Hispanic; ” El Sol, “Latin American Festival of advertising communication,” which takes place in San Sebastian, or more recently at Cannes Lions, the most important advertising festival in the world whose last edition was held last June.
